Container of Life

8_Circle - Root

The Container of Life grounds us in the root chakra. Its circular nature inspires us to cultivate a deeper relationship with earth as we travel through the Circle of Life.

Circles are primordial symbols in the sense that they represent the organizing principle of life. They have inspired children, philosophers, mathematicians, astronomers, poets and artists.

Around 2000 BCE Sumerians created a numbering system with 60 as its base, 60 also equated to one unit. They are credited with defining a circle as 360 equidistant points around a center point, based on twelve, 30-day lunar months (12 x 30 = 360). This sexagesimal system, inspired by their elegant vision of the universe, is the foundation of sacred geometry.

It is this unique relationship between humans and circles that intrigues the mind and inspires new ways of thinking. In 800 BCE the Greek word “kirkos” was used to describe a hoop or ring. In Latin, the word circulus meant both circle and circus.

In Pythagorean terms, a circle can be seen as “one”, or monad. A monad is both the creator of many and the sum of all. Plato explained in his Seventh Letter that: “the circle is a form that goes beyond definition or explanation.”

The Rhind Papyrus in Egypt, c. 1650 BCE, was the first written text to define the area of a circle as 3.1605. Archimedes correctly identified the exact calculation of Pi (π) as the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, or 3.14159. This theory still holds true today. Through the use of super computers, Pi (π) has been calculated over two quadrillion decimal points without a repeating pattern. Proving that the infinite nature of a circle transcends the linear world. It contains. Circles create unity within infinity by encompassing the vast diversity as “one” and “all”.

The Container of Life reminds us that our physical body is interconnected with Earth, which allows us to explore the spiritual and infinite nature of our soul. This uniquely human journey is made possible by respecting and tending to our roots. To trust and care for earth as she cares for us. Earth will nurture us as we grow and mulch what no longer serves us without any judgment. We have much to learn as we grow.

Message: We are in a period of manifestation. Release our attachment to outcome and trust in our potential and its infinite possibilities. Remember we are the container and the creator of our reality.

“The nature of god is a circle of which the center is everywhere and the circumference is nowhere” – Empedocles

Portal of Life

The portal of life, also known as a vesica piscis, resides in the sacral chakra where the circular “one” divides to create new life. It also represents the birth portal, where the sacred feminine and sacred masculine join to create life. Here a new life emerges from the watery world of the womb into the solar world of air. The body and soul come to life with its first breath.

For students of Pythagoras (Greek philosopher c. 570-490BCE) a vesica piscis meant “measure of a fish”. This was seen as the intersection of the watery world of earth with the divine world of sky. Pythagoras saw math as a path to spiritual liberation, where life was understood through mathematical principles. The “one” is the unifying creator of many and sum of all.

This creation dance between unity and duality, oneness and separation, wholeness and division has also been interpreted as frightening and chaotic. Yet all of this is essential to life itself.

The almond shape of a vesica piscis is known as a mandorla in Italian. It’s also symbolic of the human eye, which is seen as a mirror into the soul.

In Judaism, the menorah (seven-branched oil lamp) is based on an almond tree that represents the Tree of Life as well as the seven days of creation.

To Christians, the vesica piscis represented the womb of the Virgin Mary, who birthed Jesus when heaven and earth came together through her. Jesus is often referred to as a “fisher of men” (part man, part god). A stylized version of a vesica piscis, when turned on its side, is called an Ichthys or “Jesus Fish”.

For Muslims the vesica piscis represents the womb of the universe, that holds the ovum of the universe (sacred black stone), placed in the East corner of the Kaaba in Mecca. The East represents the birth of a new day, the rising Sun.

In sacred geometry, the portal of life symbolizes the birth of humanity and the creation essence within us all. The process of creation can be both unpredictable and chaotic as well as predictable and sweet. Regardless of the process, we are continually reminded that we are “one”.

Message: Let go of limiting beliefs and be open to new solutions and synchronicities. Enjoy the push and pull of the creative process by remembering that there are no mistakes, only insights. Look for potential partnerships or community that supports creative vision.

“You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star.” – Friedrich Nietzsche –

Seed of Life

10_Seed of Life - Solar Plexus

The seed of life shines within our solar plexus chakra as a source of our vitality, courage and joy. This matrix is created by adding a ring of six circles around the central “one”, which birthed these six circles through the Portal of Life. The Sun, Sol in Latin, is also the “central one” of our solar system.

Five billion years ago, in the Milky Way galaxy, a newly formed star began to grow hotter and stronger until it fused nearby stardust and gas into planets and rocks. Held within its orbit, this star became our Sun. It is the “one” and only star in our solar system that planted the seeds of life on Earth. The Sun’s electromagnetic core is a consistent source of heat and light that makes all life within its reach possible.

Ancient astronomers began to identify seven “wanderers”, as divine “ones” who watched over Earth. Also known as the “classical planets”, they were the: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Jupiter, Mars, Venus and Saturn. These seven divine “ones” planted the seeds that inspired multiple creation stories.

In sacred geometry, the seed of life matrix, also known as the Genesis Pattern, mirrors the six days of creation and the seventh day of rest.

In 321 CE, under the guidance of Emperor Constantine, the Romans decreed that a Roman week would consist of seven days. Dies Solis, day of the Sun, became Sunday. Since Sol Invictus “the invincible sun” ruled over the military, Sunday was declared a day of rest so soldiers could regain their strength. The Winter Solstice was celebrated as the time when the Sun was reborn and a new agricultural year began.

Our solar plexus represents our internal source of strength, energy and willpower. This is where our dreams and desires are fed and where we decide when and how to take action. These seeds of light in our solar plexus also cast shadows to remind us that our greatest gifts are hiding within our fears. By shining light on our shadows, we can retrieve our wisdom, that was born by fire. By making peace within our self, we can more fully stand in our own light and our darkness.

Message: Power provides the ability to create, destroy and to nurture. To be at peace with the concept of power is to know when to create, when to destroy when to nurture and when to rest. We alone have the ability to choose. Be open to this power that is growing within us. Learn how to use this power wisely as we plant our seeds for the future.

“Love is born in fire, is planted like a seed.  Love cannot give you everything, but it gives you what you need.” – Kate Wolfe

Flower of Life

11_Heart Chakra - Flower of Life

The flower of life blossoms within our heart chakra, where the Sun, Moon, Stars and Planets are interwoven into one harmonic story. The flower of life is formed by adding a ring of twelve circles to the seed of life.

These 12 circles represent 12 “moons”, based on an idealized 30-day lunar month in Sumerian astronomy. Twelve 30-day lunar months, equaled a 360-day solar year. Inspired by these 12-moons, the Babylonians divided the night sky into 12, 30-degree sections along the ecliptic, which is defined by the motion of the sun as seen from earth. These 12 “star” sections defined the constellations, and were associated with the 12-moons in a solar year. The Greeks named these constellations the “zodiac”, meaning “circle of animals”.

By combining this ring of 12-circles with the 7-circles in the seed of life, a matrix of 19-interlocking circles is revealed. This is the exact number of years within a Metonic cycle, which was used to synchronize lunar and solar calendars. Named for Meton of Athens, in 432 BCE, it balanced seven long years (13 months) with twelve short years (12 months) to create a 19-year cycle. This helped to synchronize planetary and star calendars that could predict the exact date of the equinoxes and solstices. This union of earthly needs and cosmic guidance helped farmers to understand when to plant and when to harvest. The flower of life is a divine and fertile symbol of this cosmic union.

There are also 7 independent circles within the 19 interlocking circles. They represent the seven days of the week. Each day, correlates to the seven “classical planets”: Sunday-Sun, Monday-Moon, Tuesday-Mars, Wednesday-Mercury, Thursday-Jupiter, Friday-Venus, Saturday-Saturn.

Leonardo Da Vinci (1452-1519) studied the Flower of Life, for he felt it represented the transmutation of the spirit within the earthly body where the soul become “one”. The Tree of Life diagram, known as the Kabbalah in Jewish mysticism, is revealed within the flower of life. The Kabbalah represents the mystical journey of the soul as it descends into human form and then consciously ascends to divine oneness.

Message: Be open to the hidden wisdom in our soul. This wisdom is becoming more accessible as we begin to see with our hearts instead of our eyes. Just as we appreciate the gifts of others, it is time to appreciate the gifts within us. A bud is never fully realized if it does not blossom.  Now is a time of opening, to honor the person we are becoming.

“There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud. Was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” – Anais Nin –

Fruit of Life

12_Fruit of Life - Throat

The clockwork nature of time is held in the throat chakra. This story is revealed in the geometry of the fruit of life matrix by adding a ring of 18 and 24 circles to the flower of life.

The first ring of 18 circles represents an 18-year Saros cycle, when the Sun, Moon and Earth return to the same relative location to repeat a solar or lunar eclipse. This cycle helped ancient astronomers predict the time and location of the Sun and Moon as they began to measure time and space. A Sar is the 9-year period between a lunar and solar eclipse.

The second ring of 24 circles represents the 24-hours in one-day, or one rotation of earth on its axis. A day is defined by 2, 12-hour periods: AM (ante meridiem) and PM (post meridiem).

By adding these rings of 18 and 24 circles with the 19 circles in the flower of life, a total of 60 interlocking circles surrounds the central “one”. This correlates to 60-minutes in “one” hour and 60-seconds in “one” minute.

The actual fruit of life pattern is revealed by focusing on the 13-independent circles within the 61 circles. Together these 13 circles represent a 13-week cycle, which is the approximate number of weeks within the four seasons of: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. When you multiply 13-weeks by 4-seasons it equates to a 52-week year.

The sacred geometry within the fruit of life inspired the creation of calendars and clocks, which brought order into everyday life. As farming communities grew, temple towns were created and the nature of time was known only by temple priests and priestess as a way to control the people and enforce laws. As patriarchy grew, men associated themselves with the solar world of the sun, as “keepers of the seed”. Women were associated with the lunar world of the moon, as “keepers of the mystery”. The fruit of life reveals the wisdom of time.

Time is relative to how we perceive it. Some see it as an illusion, or as a mathematical construct. Others believe it to be proof of divine order. In reality time is timeless. Earth spins on its axis as it orbits the Sun every 365.25 days. The Moon is revealed by the Sun’s light as it orbits Earth every 29.5 days. Earth’s tilted axis determines the days when the seasons begin and end.

Message: It is time to rethink and reset as we prepare for change. Become aware of our surroundings and identify what needs to shift in order to move forward. We are encouraged to share our stories with others as we shift into this new reality.

“Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something.” – Plato

Knowledge of Life

13_Metatrons Cube - Third Eye

The knowledge of life is revealed within our third eye chakra. Here the circular world merges with the linear to help us see as one. This matrix is created by connecting the center points of each of the 13-independent circles in the fruit of life with 78 lines. This matrix is also referred to as Metatron’s Cube.

Metatron, meaning “measured throne” in Hebrew, was also the name given to the prophet Enoch when he was transformed into an angel. According to the Talmud, in Kabbalistic theory, Metatron sits at the top of the Tree of Life as the first sefirot Kether “crown/throne”. In Islam, he is known as Mitatrun “the angel of the veil”. As an angelic scribe, Metatron guards the “Book of Secrets”, which is thought to hold the answers for humanity’s return to the Garden of Eden.

The female counterpart to Metatron is Shekhinah, “dwelling” in Hebrew. In the Kabbalah, Shekhinah is associated with the tenth sefirot Malkuth “Kingdom on Earth”. Located at the bottom of the Tree of Life, it represents our desire to be whole.

The knowledge of life awakens our intuitive knowing that the circular world of the divine feminine and the linear world of the divine masculine reside within us all. When we see ourself as whole, we are in fact holy. The difference between heaven and earth as well as male and female dissolves, when we realize that we are all divine souls within a human body. This knowledge was hidden for thousands of years by those who wished to hold the keys as the gatekeepers of our soul.

This wisdom resurfaced in the teachings of the Kabbalah during the middles ages through Jewish and Sufi mysticism. The Kabbalah, represents the journey of the soul as it descends through the Tree of Life to become an actualized human in earthly form. As a fully formed human the mind begins to remember that it was once a soul. This inspires the psyche to ascend the Tree of Knowledge in order to reunite with its soul and feel whole. This archetypal journey is reflected in the 78 cards of the Tarot, which consists of 22 Major Arcana cards (big secrets) and 56 Minor Arcana cards (little secrets). Together the Tarot represents our archetypal journey through life.

As the knowledge of life awakens our inner wisdom it ripples into the collective unconscious by bringing our world into focus through the unified eyes of the soul.

Message: Trust the rational mind and its intuitive senses as we awaken to a new way of being. By looking at our present situation from all directions it will become clear which action(s) we need to take in order to feel both grounded and expansive. This is a time to open our mind so we can see with our heart.

Star of Life

14_Merkaba - Crown

The star of life is associated with our crown chakra, reminding us that we come from the stars and will return to the stars. The star of life is also known as a Merkabah, which consists of two rotating tetrahedrons. The upward pointing tetrahedron represents – fire, air and blade; while the downward facing tetrahedron represents – water, earth and chalice. Together, they represent the union of our body, mind and soul.

In Hebrew, Merkabah means “chariot”, based on the visions of Ezekiel who saw a chariot composed of four beings that represented the four directions and the likeness of man. In Egyptian mythology, the merkabah meant, “beloved soul body and soul spirit” (Mer – beloved, ka – soul body, ba – soul spirit). The merkabah magically transports us to and from the stars.

The star of life is also representative of light. Our Sun, the central and only star in our solar system, gives us life by generating light through electromagnetic energy.

Scientists and astronomers have suggested that there are close to 2 trillion galaxies in our known universe with an average of 100 million stars in each galaxy. Our universe is estimated to have begun over 13.8 billion years ago. Some believe in the concept of multi-verses, which means there are other universes beyond ours. In reality there could be an infinite number of stars that speak to our soul and call us home.

The star of life encourages us to dream within the realm of infinite possibilities as we reconnect with the stardust that created us. All life on earth began from the many elements, chemicals and metals found in the star dust that impacted our earth over 4.5 billion years ago. As temperatures changed, complex elements such as water formed, which encouraged the growth of cellular bacteria and other organic micro-organisms. Eventually life evolved and began to replicate itself through unique RNA and DNA sequences.

There is a belief that we hold the blueprints of this cellular memory within us. By remembering that we all come from the stars we realize that we are interconnected with all that is.

Message: The stars are reminding us to connect with our inner compass for guidance. Make time to gaze at the stars and learn their stories. Begin to sense how stars and constellations are speaking to our soul and how their message relates to life now.

“The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff.” – Carl Sagan
