Chakra is the Sanskrit word for sacred wheel. Over 3000 years ago devout Yogis sensed invisible wheels of energy within their physical body. Yoga means to “Yoke with Spirit,” and a Yogi is someone who commits their life to this practice. Through deep meditation these Yogis could feel how these subtle wheels were related to specific areas within their body. They named these wheels Chakras because each one resonated to a different tone/vibration.
From these vibrations they created mantras or vocal sounds that improved the flow of life force energy within each chakra. These mantras helped them awaken to higher levels of consciousness, ultimately becoming one with spirit. Mantras evolved through the creation of yantras as another way to awaken and open the life force energy within them. The most famous of all yantras is the Sri Yantra which is the visual depiction of the mantra Aum.
“Your inner purpose is to awaken. It is as simple as that. You share that purpose with every other person on the planet-because that is the purpose of humanity.” – Eckhart Tolle
