Hexahedron

15_Earth - Hexahedron - Root

Root Chakra – Element of Earth – Platonic solids

The hexahedron or cube has six equal square faces. It is symbolic of Earth and is related to the root chakra that grounds us into the physical body. Earth is the archetype of being nurturing and receptive, strong and resourceful. Earth provides us with everything we need including air, food, water, shelter and clothing, as well as beauty and awe. When ancient asteroids and space particles collided with Earth, they planted seeds that carried all the elements necessary to create a vast variety of life forms. Each of these life forms is interconnected and interdependent with earth.

Earth is the third planet from the Sun and is the only known object in the universe known to sustain life. It was formed over 4 billion years ago. 71% of the earth’s surface is water making it appear blue from outer space. Earth’s atmosphere was a mixture of gases and carbon dioxide. As plant forms grew they absorbed the carbon dioxide and converted it to oxygen. Trees being the largest plant forms on earth were able to create an atmosphere that could support human life.

Humans first appeared around 200,000 years ago. Today over 7.4 billion people live on Earth and share in its resources. It is critical that we learn to live in harmony with earth and with each other. Earth provides everything we need to sustain us if we live in balance. By connecting with nature, we can sense the footsteps and lessons of our ancestors and prepare the earth for generations to come.

Message: Go outside in nature and connect with the mothering intelligence of Earth. Become more conscious of all that earth gives us as we eat, breathe, sleep and walk through life. Honor all of the beauty and diversity that surrounds us by reconnecting with our shared roots.

“The earth is what we all have in common.” – Wendell Berry

Icosahedron

16_Sacral Chakra - Water - Icosahedron

Sacral Chakra – Element of Water – Platonic Solids

The sacral chakra connects us with the element of water. Our body is roughly 75% water, without water we would survive for only three days. In essence, water is life.

The Icosahedron is a polyhedron with 20 equal triangular faces. Its solid from is symbolic of water. The dualor partner of the icosahedron is the dodecahedron, which represents the element of ether or divine air/energy.

Water is a powerful and creative force that is fed by the oceans in a process of evaporation, condensation and rain known as the hydrologic cycle. Water covers over 70% of earth’s surface.

This life-giving essence of water brings chaos and creation into our daily lives. The sacral chakra represents our sexual and creative energy, which is also a primal source of chaos.

In the ancient world, water was seen as the creative source of all life, it is often credited with birthing life on earth.

In the practice of Feng Shui, the elements of wind and water are in constant opposition to each other yet they come together to form Chi, or life force energy.  Water represents the essence of creative desire.

Message: Water is reminding us that the power of chaos is a creative and necessary force that will ultimately bring balance to all areas of our life. Connect with the power of water to help cleanse, replenish and heal. Flow with the changes that are flowing within. Be open to creating a new way of living that is rejuvenating.

“In the world there is nothing more submissive and weak than water. Yet for attacking that which is hard and strong nothing can surpass it.” – Lao Tzu

Tetrahedron

17_Fire - Tetrahedron - Solar Plexus

Solar Plexus Chakra – Element of Fire – Platonic Solids

The solar plexus chakra is named for the Latin word for Sun –Sol.  A tetrahedron has four equal triangular faces. It is symbolic of the element of fire. Fire releases heat and light through a process known as combustion. The sun as the core of our solar system is our primary source of energy, heat and light.

Our sun is a yellow dwarf star that formed 4.6 billion years ago. The temperature of the sun’s surface is approx. 10,000° Fahrenheit, at its core it reaches 27 million degrees. It is a ball of gas (hydrogen & helium) that is held together by its own gravity. Our digestive system within the solar plexus functions like a finely tuned furnace, maintaining a temperature of 98.6° Fahrenheit.

The Sun was central to many cultures throughout the world for its life-giving properties. They recorded the sun by charting the equinoxes and solstices.

These ancient astronomers created solar calendars to track the seasons of the year as they shifted from hunter gatherers to agricultural societies. This shift marked the beginning of a more linear way of thinking that some refer to as the Arian (Aries) Age. The Arian Age, which began around 2100 BCE, was seen as an age of fire and war.  It is also when the Egyptian Pharaoh, Akhenaten decreed the Sun God “Aten” as the one supreme deity. The Roman’s revered the Sun as the Sol Invictus, the invincible one. When the Roman’s replaced their polytheistic belief system with the monotheistic belief of a Christian God, the Sun transformed into the Sun/Son of God. Ironically, the holy trinity of father, son and holy spirit disempowered many from feeling or understanding their direct connection to the sun itself.

Message: Fire and sunlight hold life-giving properties that feeds our soul. It is important for us to become more conscious of the foods we eat as well as the thoughts and intentions we take in. Create a sacred fire ceremony to cleanse the emotional and energetic body. Meditate with fire to balance the power growing within. Honor the sun for the joy and life that it brings. Become conscious of how to manifest this energy within us.

“Labor to keep alive in your breast that little spark of celestial fire, called conscience.” – George Washington

Star Tetrahedron

18_Love - Star Tetrahedron - Heart

Heart Chakra – Love & Strife – Platonic Solids

The star tetrahedron within our heart is a place of union and transformation. A Star Tetrahedron, also known as a Merkaba, consists of two counter-rotating tetrahedrons. The upward-pointing tetrahedron representing fire, air and blade; merges with the downward-facing tetrahedron representing water, earth and chalice. Together they generate the electro-magnetic field that surrounds us.

Empedocles, Greek philosopher c.490–430 BCE, pioneered the theory of four classical elements: fire, air, water, earth. He felt that the two active principles of love and strife were the eternal forces that create union and separation.

He felt that love was the power that attracts different forms of matter while strife separates them. Today this can be seen in the dynamic relationship between matter and anti-matter. It can be felt between the push and pull of magnetic energy. Opposite poles (positive and negative) are attracted to each other, while the same poles will repel each other. This magnetic energy resides within us, as the heart produces 60% more electromagnetic energy than the brain.

Just as we can energetically feel our heart open and expand in the presence of profound love, we can feel our heart close when surrounded by chaos. The heart holds the universal language of love and is felt without saying a word. Kindness and compassion are two of the most powerful qualities that create loving relationships.

Message: Love and strife are both influencing our life right now. Allow this flow to occur and become conscious of what needs our attention. Love involves making peace within before making peace with others or with situations that are causing strife. Seek out those who are real enough to be honest, and who love us for who we are and who we are becoming.

“Love is not a thing to understand.
Love is not a thing to feel.
Love is not a thing to give and receive.
Love is a thing only to become and eternally be.”

 – Sri Chinmoy

Octahedron

19_Air - Octahedron - Throat

Throat Chakra – Element of Air – Platonic solids

The octahedron represents the element of air, which is expressed in the throat chakra through our breath and our voice. Breathing is a reciprocal process of receiving and releasing life force energy.

An octahedron is a polygon with eight equal triangular faces. It is made up of two four-sided triangles(pyramids) of equal proportion that meet at the base. These dual pyramids represent cosmic balance.Greek philosophers saw two levels of air. “Aer” is the atmosphere that we breathe, which surrounds ourearth. “Aether” is the air above the clouds associated with the divine sky.

Air is the creative essence of life; breath creates life through vibration. In Chinese philosophy air is chi orbreath, the eternal source of life force energy. In Hindu tradition, Prana is the act of breathing in life. In Christianity, breath in the form of a word was seen as the creation essence of God.

The air we breathe is in fact made up of nitrogen, oxygen, argon and carbon dioxide. Trees are often called the lungs of earth because they breathe in carbon dioxide and release life giving oxygen. Breathing is a reciprocal process as we inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide.

Becoming mindful of breathing is to be present now.

Message: We are being asked to become more conscious of the air we breathe and how we breathe. Use our breath to exhale any heavy energy and inhale life-giving energy. As we find our inner balance, allow ourself to rest and recharge. We are entering a period of renewed creativity in our life. Be conscious how our words and our voice create our reality.

“Breath is the bridge, which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts.” -Thich Nhat Hanh

Dodecahedron

20_Ether - Dodecahedron - Third Eye

Third Eye – Element of Ether – Platonic Solids

The third eye chakra, located in the middle of the forehead, is the place of intuition, inner knowing and conscious dreaming.By merging the logical and intuitive self together we can see our world through the singular eye of the soul.

A dodecahedron is a polygon with 12 equal pentagonal faces. Its solid form represents the element of ether. Plato worked with this concept as a model for the zodiac. Aristotle is the one who defined it as the element of ether and associated it with divine air, thought or will. It is seen as the invisible energy of space.

The combination of a dodecahedron (ether) with an icosahedron (water) creates a truncated icosahedron representing the vaporized structure of carbon. This is also known as a fullerene or BuckyBall, named after Buckminster Fuller.

As carbon beings, we are made primarily of water and energy. It is remarkable that Aristotle understood this over 2000 years ago. Fullerenes are now considered the galactic seeds of life.

The dodecahedron is aligned within the third eye chakra reminding us of the power of intuitive thought. The paradox is that without imagination, we would have no knowledge. Without knowledge, imagination cannot be developed. The truth is we need both. The third eye encourages both knowledge and imagination as we dance between the worlds of divine thought and earthly will.

Message: Trust our knowledge and our imagination. This will help us to see that nothing is impossible. Use our wisdom and our intuition to see all of the options available to us and to choose which is right for our soul. It is important that we trust and believe in ourself. We do possess the ability to make our vision a reality.

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” – Albert Einstein

Sphere

21_Light - Sphere - Crown

Crown Chakra – Element of Light – Platonic Solids

The crown chakra is associated with our belief system. It serves as a connection to our source and the infinite nature of our soul. Spheres inspire the mind to transcend thought.

Spheres are three-dimensional circles. Our sun is a sphere, and a star, and our source of light. The electromagnetic spectrum of light makes up less than 5% of all ordinary matter. Light that is actually visible to the human eye represents less than 2.3% of this spectrum and is created by narrow wavelengths of pure spectral colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet. Infrared light (below red) and ultra violet (above violet) are made up of frequencies that are invisible to the human eye. This full spectrum of light includes UVA, radio waves, microwaves, X-rays & gamma rays.

The remaining 95% of our universe contains dark energy and dark matter. We tend to be drawn to the light but we live in a universe filled with unmanifested darkness.  This can be seen as pure potential waiting to become manifest.

Message: Balancing darkness and light is an important dynamic in all aspects of our life. Both are necessary to maintain optimum health physically and spiritually. If we fear the dark it is time to make peace with it.  Think of darkness as the unmanifested potential that lies within us. If the dark represents fear, remember that we are the one projecting this fear. When we own our projections, we realize that we are the only ones who can change it.  If sleep is an issue create a darker environment in the bedroom and establish a nourishing nighttime ritual that calms the senses. If we avoid the light we should go outside and make peace with the sun and the moon in moderation. Create a daily routine that balances the light and the dark aspects that are playing out in our life right now.

“We are each gifted in a unique and important way. It is our privilege and our adventure to discover our own special light.” – Evelyn Dunbar
