Hexahedron

15_Earth - Hexahedron - Root

Our root chakra connects us to the energy of Earth. A hexahedron is a polyhedron with 6 faces, known as a cube. It represents the element of Earth, which grounds our subtle body with our physical body. It’s what makes us human.

Earth was formed over 4.5 billion years ago from a mixture of dust and gas that orbited our Sun. It grew as small planets, asteroids and space particles collided into the molten rock that once covered the surface of Earth. Each collision carried a unique set of elements necessary to create life. Being the third planet from the Sun it was perfectly positioned to allow water to form and flow over its surface. Earth’s atmosphere was then a mixture of gases and carbon dioxide.

As plant forms evolved, they were able to convert carbon dioxide to oxygen. Trees are the largest plant forms on Earth, so when their footprint expanded, they created an atmosphere that could support more diverse types of life, including humans. Modern humans appeared on earth 200,000 years ago. Today over 7.4 billion people live on this planet and share in its natural, yet limited resources.

We are interdependent with Earth for essential resources like food, water and air, which means we must take care of our Earth so Earth can take care of us. Unfortunately, we as a species have done more harm than good for our planet.

It is critical that we learn to live in harmony with Earth and with each other. Earth provides everything we need to sustain us if we live in state of reciprocity. By reconnecting with nature, we can sense what Earth needs from us and what we can do to make life better for ourselves and the generations yet to come.

When we feel ungrounded, Earth is there to embrace us as we walk, plant, and care for it. Earth is a marvel as we walk among the trees, fields and mountains, or stroll along the shores of rivers and oceans while gazing at flowers, stones and wildlife. What a gift Earth provides each and every day.

Message: Go outside in nature and connect with the mothering intelligence of Earth. Become more conscious of all that earth gives us as we eat, breathe, sleep and walk through life. Honor all of the beauty and diversity that surrounds us by reconnecting with our shared roots.

“The earth is what we all have in common.” – Wendell Berry

Icosahedron

16_Sacral Chakra - Water - Icosahedron

Our sacral chakra connects us with the energy of water. The Icosahedron is a polyhedron with 20 equal triangular faces. It represents the element of water.

Our body is roughly 75% water, without water we can only survive for three days. Earth’s surface is 71% covered in water, which supports all life in earth. In essence, water is life.

Water is a powerful and creative force that is fed by the oceans in a process of evaporation, condensation and rain known as the hydrologic cycle. This life-giving cycle brings chaos in the form of thunderstorms, lightening and floods as well as much needed water for the creation and growth of plants and animals along with breathtaking rainbows.

In the ancient world, water was seen as the source of life itself, yet the stories of a great flood nearly destroyed the very life it created. It is this sacred balance between creation and destruction, chaos and beauty that feeds our own desire to create. This desire to create and or destroy is associated with our sacral chakra as the place of our reproduction system.

To know the limits of our desires yet maintain the right balance in order to create is a continual process. Just as water ebbs and flows so do our feelings and interests. Water represents the essence of our creative desire. By respecting the power of water and its life-giving beauty, we gain a deeper sense of our own ability to create as we work through life’s challenges.

In the practice of Feng Shui, the elements of wind and water are in constant opposition to each other yet they come together in harmony to form Chi, or life force energy. This life-force energy is universal and all-encompassing.

Message: Water is reminding us that the power of chaos is a creative and necessary force that will ultimately bring balance to all areas of our life. Connect with the power of water to help cleanse, replenish and heal. Flow with the changes that are flowing within. Be open to creating a new way of living, that works in harmony with your surroundings.

“In the world there is nothing more submissive and weak than water. Yet for attacking that which is hard and strong nothing can surpass it.” – Lao Tzu

Tetrahedron

17_Fire - Tetrahedron - Solar Plexus

The solar plexus is named for Sol, the Latin word for Sun. The tetrahedron is a polyhedron with 4 triangularfaces. It represents the element of fire. Fire releases heat through a process known as combustion. The sun is our primary source of energy, heat and light.

Over 13 billion years ago, a giant explosion scattered stardust across the cosmos, birthing billions of galaxies containing trillions of stars, planets, moons and black holes. Eight billion years later, in the Milky Way galaxy, a special star was born in an area known as Orion’s Arm. This star grew hotter and stronger until it fused stardust and gas into planets and rocks.

When this star’s fiery energy created a forcefield strong enough for planets to orbit around it, it became a Sun.

Our Sun is the only star in our Solar System. There are 200-400 billion stars in the Milky Way Galaxy and 3,200 solar systems. Our Sun’s solar system is the only one that contains life.

The Sun’s surface maintains a core temperature that reaches 27 million degrees. It is a gaseous ball of hydrogen & helium, which is held together by its own gravity. Like the Sun, our digestive system maintains an internal temperature of 98.6° Fahrenheit. It functions as an internal power plant.

The Sun was central to most cultures around the world for its life-giving properties. By recording the sun’s movement, they determined the dates of the equinoxes and solstices. These ancient astronomers created solar calendars to track the seasons of the year as they shifted from hunter-gatherers to agricultural societies. This shift marked the beginning of the Arian Age, which began around 2100 BCE. It was seen as an age of fire and war. It was also when the Egyptian Pharaoh, Akhenaten decreed the Sun God Aten-Ra as the one supreme deity. The Romans also revered the Sun as Sol Invictus, “the invincible one”. When the Roman’s replaced their nature-based belief system with a Christian God, the Sun was associated with God as the Son who was born on the Winter Solstice. The Winter Solstice celebrates the rebirth of the Sun.

We must honor our fiery nature and use it for peaceful power.

Message: Fire and sunlight hold life-giving properties that feeds our soul. It is important for us to become more conscious of the foods we eat as well as the thoughts and intentions we take in. Create a sacred fire ceremony to cleanse the emotional and energetic body. Meditate with fire to balance the power growing within. Honor the Sun for the joy and life that it brings. Become conscious of how to manifest this energy within us.

“Labor to keep alive in your breast that little spark of celestial fire, called conscience.” – George Washington

Star Tetrahedron

18_Love - Star Tetrahedron - Heart

The star tetrahedron represents the union of love and strife. Empedocles (c.490–430 BCE) was a Greek philosopher who identified the four classical elements of fire, air, water and earth. He also believed that love attracts the energetic nature of the elements together while strife separates them.

This union can be seen in push-pull of magnetic energy found in magnets, where magnetic poles (positive and negative) are attracted to each other, while the same poles (positive or negative) if pointing toward each other will be repelled.

The Yin Yang symbol also reflects this harmony of opposing forces that are forever interdependent, for one cannot exist without the other.

The star tetrahedron, also known as a Merkaba, consists of two counter-rotating tetrahedrons that have joined together as one. The upward-pointing tetrahedron is symbolic of the sacred masculine (yang) energy of fire andair; while the downward-facing tetrahedron represents the sacred feminine (yin) energy of water and earth. This elemental energy resides within our heart chakra, which generates 60% more electromagnetic energy than our brain.

These two tetrahedrons also represent the combined energy and insight of the three “earthly” chakras (root, sacral and solar plexus) with the three “ethereal” chakras (throat, third eye and crown). The heart is the core connecting point where are earthly body and ethereal mind join together as one. This joining is the also the place of our soul that senses things beyond what we can see our touch.

We can feel the energy when our heart opens and expands in the presence of profound love, we can also feel it when our heart closes when we are surrounded by chaos or fear. Our heart can sense love and strife without saying a word, it will often react before our mind is able to comprehend what is happening. This is why it is so important to practice seeing with our heart instead of our eyes.

Message: Love and strife are both influencing our life right now. Allow this flow to occur and become conscious of what needs our attention. If you are feeling unbalanced or disconnected take the time to listen deeply to what your heart is saying. Making peace within ourselves is the most important act of love we can give to others.

“Love is not a thing to understand.
Love is not a thing to feel.
Love is not a thing to give and receive.
Love is a thing only to become and eternally be.”

 – Sri Chinmoy

Octahedron

19_Air - Octahedron - Throat

The octahedron represents the element of air, which is expressed in the throat chakra through our breath and voice. Breathing is a reciprocal process of receiving and releasing life force energy.

An octahedron is a polygon with eight equal triangular faces. It is made up of two four-sided triangles(pyramids) of equal proportion that meet at the base. These dual pyramids represent cosmic balance.Greek philosophers saw two levels of air. “Aer” is the atmosphere that we breathe, which surrounds ourearth. “Aether/ether” is the air above the clouds associated with the divine sky.

Air is the creative essence of life; breath creates life through vibration. In Chinese philosophy air is chi orbreath, the eternal source of life force energy. In Hindu tradition, Prana is the act of breathing in life. In Christianity, breath in the form of a word was seen as the creation essence of god.

The air we breathe is in fact made up of nitrogen, oxygen, argon and carbon dioxide. Trees are often called the lungs of earth because they breathe in carbon dioxide and release life giving oxygen. Breathing is a reciprocal process as we inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide.

Becoming mindful of breathing is to be present now.

Message: We are being asked to become more conscious of the air we breathe and how we breathe. Use our breath to exhale any heavy energy and inhale life-giving energy. As we find our inner balance, allow ourself to rest and recharge. We are entering a period of renewed creativity in our life. Be conscious how our words and our voice create our reality.

“Breath is the bridge, which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts.” -Thich Nhat Hanh

Dodecahedron

20_Ether - Dodecahedron - Third Eye

The dodecahedron represents ether, which was originally seen as the cosmic element that held up the stars and planets. Today it is associated with the theory of spacetime, which is mass and energy. It is associated with the third eye and our ability to see what is not visible.

Dodecahedrons are polygons with 12-equal pentagonal faces. Plato originally saw the dodecahedron as the organizing force of the universe.  Aristotle defined it as the element of ether that he associated with divine thought.

The dodecahedron inspired the theories of gravity, special relativity, and the equation E=mc2, “Energy equals mass times the speed of light squared.”  Mass (matter) and energy are interchangeable, for they are actually different forms of the same thing.

In 1984 and 1985 scientists began experimenting to discover the atomic structure of carbon, which is found in all life forms and some stars. By vaporizing carbon with helium laser beams a new molecular structure was discovered. It is called a truncated icosahedron, and looks like a soccer ball. They named it a fullerene or buckyball for Buckminster Fuller. Its structure combines a dodecahedron (energy and mass) with an icosahedron (water). Fullerenes are considered the galactic seeds of life. This is fascinating considering that these molecular structures were understood over 2500 years ago without the help of microscopes or laser technology. They were seen within the realm of intuitive thought.

Our third eye reminds us to trust in our ability to combine intuition and imagination with knowledge and thought. The element between the third eye (dodecahedron/ether) and the sacral (icosahedron/water) is the star tetrahedron located in the heart, representing the electromagnetic push pull of love & strife. This reminds us to anchor our creativity and intuition within our heart to discern what is true to our soul. The third eye reminds us of our inherent connection to the cosmos and how our thoughts can impact our vision.

Message: Intuitive imagination will help us to see that nothing is impossible. It’s important that we trust and believe in our ability to see that which is not visible. We possess the ability to make our heart’s desire a reality by bringing that reality to life in our minds eye.

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” – Albert Einstein

Sphere

21_Light - Sphere - Crown

The sphere is associated with the element of light, which is associated with our crown chakra. Johannes Kepler (1571-1630) a German astronomer, enclosed the platonic solids within spheres representing the six known planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn). Technically a sphere is not considered a platonic solid because it isn’t a polygon, but platonic solids were understood to be encased within a sphere.

Our Sun is a sphere, which is also our primary source of light. The six known planets were all created by the electromagnetic energy of our Sun, located in the center of our solar system. Our Sun is also a star, and like all stars it emits light that can be seen many lightyears away. The electromagnetic spectrum of light makes upless than 5% of all ordinary matter.

The remaining 95% of our universe contains 68% dark energy, which expands the universe and 27% dark matter, which holds the universe together. We tend to be drawn to the light but we live in a universe filled with unmanifested darkness. This can be seen as pure potential waiting to become manifest. Light that is actually visible to the human eye represents less than 2.3% of the 5% electromagnetic spectrum of light. This visible light is created by narrow wavelengths of pure spectral colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet.Infrared light (below red) and ultra violet (above violet) are made up of frequencies invisible to the humaneye. This full electromagnetic spectrum of light includes: visible light rays, ultraviolet waves, radio waves, microwaves, infrared waves, X-rays and gamma rays.

Light represents our sacred connection to source as we seek to understand and connect to the infinite nature of our soul.

Message: Create a daily routine that balances the light and the dark aspects that are playing out in our life right now. Balancing darkness and light is an important dynamic in all aspects of our life. Both are necessary to maintain optimum health physically and spiritually. If we fear the dark it is time to make peace with it. Think of darkness as the unmanifested potential that lies within us. If the dark represents fear, remember that we are the one projecting this fear. When we own our projections, we realize that we are the only ones who can change it.  If sleep is an issue create a darker environment in the bedroom and establish a nourishing nighttime ritual that calms the senses. If we avoid the light we should go outside and make peace with the sun and the moon in moderation.

“We are each gifted in a unique and important way. It is our privilege and our adventure to discover our own special light.” – Evelyn Dunbar
