Awareness of Self

Portal of Life

The sacral chakra represents the place where a baby releases itself from the dark womb of its mother in order to travel through the portal of life into the world of light. When the first breath is drawn, the awareness of self begins.

This immediate awareness of separation encourages the self to survive.

Individuation of self develops within the first seven years of life.

During the early stages the child may remember itself as a soul, but the desire to explore, thrive and feel all the emotions of life can overshadow the soul’s quiet and subtle presence. As a child becomes more aware of its body and mind, they become less aware of their soul.

This is when the self begins to separate itself from its soul to claim its own individual and unique identity in this lifetime.

During this time of early childhood, parts of the self can become disempowered or lost due to trauma, neglect, abandonment, fear, or generational stories, etc. These lost parts can unconsciously hide within our shadow that impacts how we see our self and our world. When the child feels love, compassion and joy it builds confidence and hope that can protect and encourage those parts of us that are wounded or alone. This is a powerful time that impacts our ability to embrace the life we have been born into. It’s also important to honor the innocence of the soul as its subtle presence is what brought us here. Childlike wonder is a gift when searching for our self, especially is the shadows.

The sacral chakra represents the growing awareness of our self as our personality emerges based on life experiences and the subtle tug of our soul.

Message: We may have disconnected from our soul’s purpose for reasons that are hidden in our shadows. See into our shadows with wonder to find the insights our soul holds.

“This meeting with oneself is, at first, the meeting with one’s own shadow. The shadow is a tight passage, a narrow door, whose painful constriction no one is spared. But one must learn to know oneself in order to know who one is. For what comes after the door is a boundless expanse full of unprecedented uncertainty. It is the world of water, where I am indivisibly this and that; where I experience the other in myself and the other than myself experiences me.” – Carl Jung

Unconscious Self

Seed of Life

The unconscious self, hides in the shadows of our eternal sun within the solar plexus chakra. The shadow is often referred to as a person’s dark side. This aspect of the unconscious self may be hidden, but it holds the insights we need to blossom.

Just as a seed holds the potential of the flower so does the shadow hold the potential of the self. The shadows of the self often stem from our early life experiences. If we experienced trauma, neglect, abuse, or were told generational stories that held deep wounds, they often become a part of our identity. Similarly, life experiences of joy, love and compassion and ancestral stories of strength and endurance can instill resilience and hope hidden within the unconscious self.

To awaken we must become conscious of what we are hiding. By seeing the shadow self without judgment, past wounds can be healed and transformed. Our hidden gifts of creative expression and resilience can be revealed and celebrated as the true self becomes fully known and seen.

The sacral chakra encourages us to embrace who are and who we wish to be. If we find ourself hiding aspects of ourselves based on fear, now is the time to explore why. Be gentle yet strong as you shed light on yourself. This is a time a claiming our self as a person of power and peace.

Message: Make peace with our shadows by seeing why they are there and what can learn from them. We have the courage, confidence and compassion we need to see the insights they hold. Trust that we are now ready to release any fear or anxiety that we are not good enough or strong enough. This is a time of new beginnings and an opportunity to heal what we thought was impossible. These insights will move us forward with a renewed sense of clarity and purpose.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.” – Carl Jung

Conscious Self

Flower of Life

The heart is the place of the conscious self that knows that the self and soul are one.

The conscious self acknowledges the journey that the self is on as well as the presence of the soul.

This place where the self and soul are one resides in the heart that generates an electromagnetic field that is 60 times greater than the brain. This subtle yet powerful energy field is a sensory organ that has the ability to learn, remember and make independent decisions. The conscious self, engages the heart in an ongoing dialogue between the self and the soul.

Being conscious of our self requires compassion and non-judgment as we open our heart to see ourselves as one.

To be one is to be whole, and to be whole is to be “holy”. The root word for “holy” is “hāl“, meaning whole, sound, healthy, entire, complete in Old English. It is based on the Proto-Germanic word “hailagaz” meaning “holy or bringing health”.

Seeing and feeling ourself as whole is healthy for our mind, body and soul. By embracing the multi-dimensional aspects of our self and our soul we ground our self in the core of our being within the heart. The heart understands what the mind may not yet be able to comprehend.

This broader perspective of who we are opens us to unlimited possibilities within the realm of our heart. Here we can feel safe to see the world with new eyes and a more expansive perspective. We can dream our world into being by freeing ourselves from the constraints of our earthly body an seeing the world through the eye of the soul. This ability to be in our body while we soar with our soul helps us to feel more alive.

Message: Become more conscious of ourself by connecting deep within our heart.  See with our heart instead of our eyes. Trust the inner voice of our soul and connect to our true self. Embrace life and all of its potential. Be fully aware of any opportunities that may be unfolding for us now.

“To have an open heart is to be fully awakened and truly alive.” – Vito Santana

Collective Unconscious

Fruit of Life

The throat chakra carries the energy of the collective unconscious through the sharing of stories and memories across cultures and generations. These cross-cultural stories were based on human experiences that formed universal patterns within the psyche (self and soul). Carl Jung saw these patterns as archetypes that were manifested through dreams and behaviors that informed the myths that haunt us.

These archetypal patterns have influenced science, art, religion and as well as our moral compass. It unconsciously informs our conscious and collective mind, which impacts societal shifts in human behavior and how we see the world. The power of myth and story is pervasive in our lives.

These stories held within our collective unconscious were passed on through generations of storytellers, which held the archetypal wounds of being male and female. We perpetuate these unhealed stories of our humanness whenever we share or collude with the patterns they created.

By shedding light on these old stories, we can begin to see them for what they are, old wounded stories that no longer serve us. This allows us to rewrite and retell these stories in a way that can help us heal those old patterns of behavior.

The goal is to awaken the collective unconscious by becoming conscious of our stories and the choices we make. By shifting these unhealed patterns through our actions and stories we can begin to heal our self and our world.

Message: It is time for us to reclaim the wisdom that is within us by taking another look at the old stories of our life and rethinking how we want to react and share them. This will help us to speak our truth from a place of peaceful power. Words spoken with love and wisdom are the most powerful gifts we can give to our self and our world.

“The collective unconscious – so far as we can say anything about it at all – appears to consist of mythological motifs or primordial images, for which reason the myths of all nations are its real exponents. In fact, the whole of mythology could be taken as a sort of projection of the collective unconscious” – Carl Jung

Collective Conscious

The collective conscious is a set of shared beliefs, ideas and moral attitudes that operate as a unifying force within society. This occurs when the anima (feminine desire within men) and animus (masculine desire within women) comes into balance and harmony with each other.

By awakening and healing the archetypal stories held in the collective unconscious we can move forward into collective consciousness. As the collective consciousness grows, the old patterns held within the collective unconscious transform to reflect what is now collectively conscious. In order to awaken the collective consciousness, we must step out of fear and learn to trust in the language of our heart.

By opening our intuitive third eye we can begin to connect to others in ways we had not thought possible and perceive our world in new ways.

In this state of unity consciousness all people and cultures retain and respects the uniqueness of others. This is necessary for our continued evolution as a species.

As we awaken together, we heal the wounds and stories of our ancestors throughout time for generations to come.

Message: Trust in our knowing and transform our knowledge into wisdom.  We are now seeing what the great sages of the world have been teaching for thousands of years. Let compassion, love and nonjudgment reframe our awareness of life and those around us. Take another look at something we had dismissed and see it from the perspective of the soul.

“All our knowledge has its origins in our perceptions.” – Leonardo DaVinci

Awakened Self

The awakened self sees the one and all in everything. Carl Jung focused on integrating the opposite aspects of the conscious and unconscious mind to deepen the sense of self. He saw that the human psyche was by nature religious, seeking to understand the meaning of life and death.

This led to the creation of stories and religions that separated the soul from the self and each other. He believed that to heal the soul would require a journey within so the self and the soul could meet at the same time.

The story of the Garden of Eden symbolizes the archetypal separation of the soul from the self, as human and inferior.

Jung saw trees as an archetype of the human psyche. He saw the mandala as the archetype of wholeness, where the self and the soul become one. When the self reaches this level of awareness, also called enlightenment, moksha, nirvana etc., it awakens the self to see the endless potential of the soul.

The soul’s ability to see through time and space becomes accessible with a single thought. Life becomes infinitely expansive as awareness radiates in all directions in every dimension. This might sound mind-blowing, but it is what many seekers sought: a state of bliss. It is pure and uncluttered; there are no worries or pretenses. We just are.

Message: See the soul as having a human experience. Sense the infinite world within us. Remember that whatever troubles we are experiencing are temporary. Look around and see the miracles of life. Feel gratitude by rising above the mundane.

“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” – Rumi
