Trees remind us that we are interconnected with everything. The Soul reminds us that the connection we seek will forever be within us. We are united through our shared roots while we live on this earth and reach for the stars. The soul’s desire to feel connection on earth and among the stars inspired epic stories and myth’s that shaped our understanding of life.
Over 5000 years ago ancient Mesopotamian astronomers associated seven wandering “stars” that were seen with the naked eye as divine deities who watched over earth. These seven “wanderers” were actually the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. Seven soon became a number of “divine order” which inspired the seven-day week.
Around 800 BCE, Greek poets and philosophers, such as Homer and Hesiod, reimagined these seven planetary deities as the Titans and Olympians who ruled over Earth in mythological epics. The Romans later associated these gods with the seven days of the week by naming each day in honor of their planetary ruler. When Greek and Latin were translated into German and English these ancient gods were renamed for their Germanic and Norse counterparts.
Trees reach up and out to remind us of our shared roots.
